Newsletters & Blogs — Weekly Signal¶
Newsletters are the highest-signal-to-effort channel in the Java world. Subscribe to 3-4, unsubscribe from anything you don’t open within 2 weeks. Read them Monday morning with coffee before your day starts.

RSS is Not Dead¶
Use Feedly (free tier, feedly.com) or NetNewsWire (Mac, free) or Inoreader (freemium, inoreader.com) to aggregate. All blog URLs above have /feed or /rss endpoints. RSS in 2026 beats email for “notify me only when new content ships” without inbox pollution.
The Un-Subscribe Rule¶
If you have not opened a newsletter in 4 weeks, unsubscribe. Every unread email in your inbox on Monday morning is a small guilt tax. Aggressive unsubscribing is a productivity practice.
The Zoho Reader-Specific Note¶
You’re at Zoho. Zoho Mail supports RSS in Streams. If you use it for personal, aggregate all Java blogs into a Java stream and read weekly. Cleaner than email.
Deep Reads to Bookmark (Once, Then Revisit Yearly)¶
Not newsletters, but articles worth re-reading annually:
“Nothing is Something” by Sandi Metz (Ruby example but the principle is language-agnostic) — sandimetz.com/blog/2015/1/15/nothing-is-something
“Parse, don’t validate” by Alexis King — lexi-lambda.github.io/blogs/2019-11-05-parse-don-t-validate/
“Programming as Theory Building” by Peter Naur (1985) — reprinted many places; search title
“You Are Not Google” by Ozan Onay — bravenewgeek.com/you-are-not-google
“The Twelve-Factor App” — 12factor.net (read once; treat as scripture for Spring Boot)
These are not Java-specific but every senior Java engineer has read them.
Rule for This Plan¶
M1: subscribe to Java Weekly + JEP Café + Foojay. That’s it. Add more only when you notice a real gap (e.g., subscribe to Thorben’s newsletter in M7 when you hit Hibernate). More subscriptions ≠ more knowledge.
