08 — Indian Developer Community¶

You are in Bangalore-ish. There is a real, active, high-quality systems community here — you just have to find it. This file is that map. It is short because the global communities (Reddit, TCCPP, HN) do most of the work; but the in-person and India-specific channels below are what turn a remote reader into an embedded practitioner.

Communities to lurk¶

r/developersIndia — for career/comp/culture context. Not for C help.
HasGeek Telegram/Discord groups — invite links posted at Rootconf events.
Zoho internal engineering channels — once you’re an Applied ML engineer with C ambitions, ask your manager which internal Slack/Zoho Cliq channels the systems teams live in. This is your highest-value community once you’re inside the building.
IIT alumni Slack/Telegram groups — if you have any alumni connection (or a friend who does), the private systems channels are gold.

Zoho-specific angle¶

Zoho has strong C/C++ engineering under the hood of ZOHO Mail, ZOHO CRM’s search index, and the ManageEngine product line’s core services. Your goal by M6-M9 is to become internally-known as the ML engineer who can actually read the C code. Practical steps:

Find the internal C codebases (ask around; likely mail servers, indexing, and the ManageEngine networking layer).
Submit small, correct doc or comment PRs to those repos. Not features — just accuracy improvements.
By M9, propose a lunch-and-learn on one topic you’ve absorbed (e.g., “SIMD in production ML kernels — a walkthrough of one llama.cpp path”). Zoho engineering culture is receptive to internal deep-dives.

What most people get wrong about the Indian dev community¶

They assume it’s all “job hunt Telegram groups” and “GFG-style tutorials.” The real Indian systems community — HasGeek + Zerodha + Nilenso + IISc — is small, tight, and elite. You get in by showing up in person. There is no online shortcut.
